TikTok Shop Fees UK Explained

The commission is the number everyone quotes. It is rarely the number that decides whether you make money. Here is the full cost of a TikTok Shop order.

Breakdown of a TikTok Shop UK order showing commission, affiliate fee, shipping and margin

Short answer

At the time of writing (October 2026), TikTok Shop UK charges a 9% commission fee, inclusive of VAT, on each order, calculated on the order value including buyer-paid shipping and adjusted for refunds. Reduced rates apply to some new sellers and categories. On top of that you pay any affiliate commission you offer, shipping, promotions you fund and ad spend.

At the time of writing (October 2026), the headline TikTok Shop fee in the UK is a 9% commission, inclusive of VAT, taken from each order. That figure comes from TikTok Shop's UK commission rate page, which is the page to check before you set prices, because platform fees change and blog posts age.

The commission is the easiest cost to understand and rarely the one that decides whether a product makes money. Affiliate commission, shipping, promotions and returns usually matter more.

What is the TikTok Shop commission fee in the UK?

The commission fee is TikTok's cut of each sale. Three details matter:

  • It is calculated on more than the product price. TikTok's fee documentation includes buyer-paid shipping in the base, and adjusts for refunds.
  • It is VAT inclusive. The 9% already includes VAT, rather than 9% plus VAT.
  • Reduced rates exist. TikTok lists lower rates for eligible new sellers, for selected Electronics and Beauty & Personal Care categories, and for sellers completing certain Seller Missions. Eligibility and duration change, so check what applies to your shop in Seller Centre.

A reduced introductory rate is pleasant, but do not price products on it. Price on the standard rate, and treat any reduction as margin you did not count on.

Affiliate commission

When a creator sells your product through the affiliate programme, you pay them the commission rate you set, on top of TikTok's fee. It is the cost most sellers underestimate, because the products that sell best through creators are often the ones where creators are being paid most. The TikTok Shop affiliate programme guide covers how to set rates.

Shipping and fulfilment

If you ship yourself, your cost is postage plus packaging plus the time to pack. If you use Fulfilled by TikTok, you pay TikTok's fulfilment and storage charges instead, and TikTok subsidises shipping on some orders. The current FBT terms are in TikTok's FBT UK guide. Run the numbers both ways rather than assuming either is cheaper.

Promotions

TikTok Shop runs regular campaigns, and participating usually means funding a discount. Platform-funded discounts are different, but you need to know which is which before you opt in. A 20% seller-funded discount on a product with a 25% margin is not a promotion; it is a loss.

Ads

GMV Max campaigns are paid per result, and the cost per order varies widely. Count ad spend as part of the cost per order for the products you advertise, not as a separate marketing budget, or you will think products are profitable when they are not. TikTok Shop ads and GMV Max explained covers how to judge that.

A worked example

Hypothetical numbers for a product selling at £25, with buyer-paid shipping of £0 (free shipping, so you absorb postage). The seller is not VAT registered.

LineAmount
Sale price£25.00
Product cost, landed-£8.00
Postage and packaging-£3.20
TikTok commission at 9%-£2.25
Margin before affiliates, ads and returns£11.55
Affiliate commission at 15%, if a creator sold it-£3.75
Margin on an affiliate sale£7.80
Allowance for returns, say 5% of revenue-£1.25
Margin before ads and your time£6.55

That works. Now change one thing: the seller is VAT registered. A £25 VAT-inclusive price contains about £4.17 of output VAT payable to HMRC, which takes that £6.55 down to around £2.40 before any input VAT you can reclaim on costs. Add a 20% promotion and it is negative.

This is why I build a per-product margin sheet before any product goes live. The headline commission is never the problem on its own.

How to work out your break-even price

Turn the example into a formula you can reuse for any product:

  1. Add up every fixed cost per order: landed product cost, postage, packaging, and any per-order fulfilment fee.
  2. Add up every percentage cost: TikTok commission, the affiliate rate you will offer, a returns allowance and, if VAT registered, the VAT fraction of a VAT-inclusive price (one sixth at the standard 20% rate).
  3. Break-even price = fixed costs divided by (1 minus the total percentage costs).

Hypothetical: fixed costs of £11.20 and percentage costs of 9% commission, 15% affiliate and 5% returns, so 29% in total. Break-even is £11.20 divided by 0.71, about £15.77. Anything below that loses money on every creator sale, before ads. Add a target profit to the fixed costs and the same formula gives you a target price.

If the price that formula produces is far above what similar products sell for on TikTok, the product is not viable on this channel with this supplier. Better to find that out on a spreadsheet than after a month of sales.

Own shipping vs Fulfilled by TikTok: what changes in the cost

PackagingYoursTikTok's, under their rules
StorageYour premises or 3PLTikTok's storage charges

FBT is not automatically cheaper or dearer. It tends to make more sense for faster-moving products with predictable demand, and less sense for slow sellers that sit in storage. Model both with your own volumes.

Fees on cancellations and returns

Cancelled orders that never complete do not generate a sale, so there is nothing to earn commission on, but seller-caused cancellations count against account health. That cost does not appear on a statement, and it can be the most expensive one if it leads to restrictions.

Returns cost you postage both ways in many cases, the time to inspect, and sometimes the product itself if it cannot be resold. Track your return rate per product from the start; a product with a high return rate can be unprofitable at any commission level.

VAT and TikTok Shop fees

Two VAT questions come up constantly.

Does my price include VAT? If you are VAT registered, the price a UK customer pays is VAT inclusive, and you owe the VAT on it. If you are not registered, there is no VAT to pay on your sales, but you cannot reclaim VAT on your costs either. At the time of writing (October 2026), the registration threshold is £90,000 of taxable turnover over a rolling 12 months, per GOV.UK, counted across all your sales channels.

Can I reclaim VAT on the commission? TikTok states the UK commission rate as inclusive of VAT. If you are VAT registered, check with your accountant how the invoices TikTok issues should be treated. If you are not registered, the full amount is a cost.

How payouts work

TikTok pays out to the verified UK bank account after deducting fees and commissions. Payouts follow a settlement schedule rather than arriving when the order is placed, and funds can be held while an order is in its delivery or return window.

That delay matters most if you pay suppliers upfront. A viral video that sells several hundred units can leave you funding the stock for weeks before the money arrives. Plan for that before it happens.

Your settlement statements in Seller Centre itemise every deduction. Reconcile them monthly, at least at first, so you know exactly what each order really costs.

How TikTok Shop fees compare with other marketplaces

Comparing commission percentages across platforms is less useful than it looks, because each platform charges for different things: listing fees, per-order fees, subscriptions, payment processing, advertising that is effectively mandatory. If you sell on several channels, compare total cost per order including advertising and fulfilment. For one example of a different structure, see Etsy fees UK explained.

How to keep TikTok Shop fees under control

  1. Price every product on the standard commission rate, not an introductory one.
  2. Set affiliate commission per product based on its margin, not one rate for the whole shop.
  3. Only join seller-funded promotions on products that can carry the discount.
  4. Include ad spend in cost per order for advertised products.
  5. Reconcile settlement statements monthly.
  6. Drop products that only make money when nothing goes wrong.
  7. Recheck the official commission page every few months, and rerun your margin sheet when anything changes.

For the bigger picture of how fees fit with content, creators and fulfilment, the TikTok Shop UK guide puts them in context. If you want the margin model built before launch, that is part of the TikTok Shop setup service.

At the time of writing (October 2026), TikTok Shop UK does not charge a monthly subscription to open a seller account. The main platform cost is the commission on each completed order. Optional costs such as fulfilment by TikTok, advertising and affiliate commission are separate and only apply if you use them.

Yes. According to TikTok Shop's UK fee documentation, the commission base includes buyer-paid shipping, not just the product price. So offering paid shipping does not avoid commission on that part of the order. Check the current calculation on the official commission page, as the formula is the part most likely to change.

Refunds are deducted from the value commission is calculated on, so a fully refunded order should not leave you paying full commission on it. Partial refunds adjust it proportionally. The exact treatment is shown line by line on your settlement statements in Seller Centre, which is where to check rather than assuming.

If you are VAT registered, VAT charged on business costs can usually be reclaimed with a valid VAT invoice. TikTok's UK commission rate is stated as inclusive of VAT, so ask your accountant how the invoices from TikTok should be treated in your VAT return. If you are not VAT registered, the full fee is simply a cost.
