Etsy Fees UK Explained
Six fee lines, VAT on top, and one advertising fee that can more than double the total. Here is what a UK Etsy sale actually costs.

Short answer
At the time of writing, UK Etsy sellers pay a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on item price plus postage, payment processing of 4% + £0.20, and a UK regulatory operating fee of 0.48%, with VAT charged on Etsy's fees. Offsite Ads add 15% (or 12%) on attributed sales, capped at $100. Expect around 14–15% of a typical order including VAT, before ads.
Etsy fees for UK sellers come in several layers: a listing fee, a transaction fee, a payment processing fee, a regulatory operating fee, VAT on all of those, and — on some sales — an Offsite Ads fee. On a typical small order, the fixed fees come to around 14–15% of the order total including VAT. An Offsite Ads sale can take that well past 25%.
All figures are at the time of writing (October 2026), from Etsy's Fees and Payments Policy. Etsy changes fees periodically, most recently the UK regulatory operating fee in June 2026, so check the policy before you set prices. For the wider picture of running a shop, see how to sell on Etsy UK.

How each Etsy fee works
Listing fee. $0.20 USD per listing, converted to pounds on your statement. A listing lasts four months or until it sells. If auto-renew is on, a renewal charges the fee again. On listings with more than one in stock, each additional item sold triggers another listing fee as the listing renews for the next unit.
Transaction fee. 6.5% of the price you display plus the postage and gift wrap you charge. Postage is not a way round it.
Payment processing. For sellers with a UK bank account, 4% + £0.20 per order, calculated on the full amount the buyer pays. Etsy's help page on payment processing fees has the rates for other countries.
Regulatory operating fee. Etsy's charge to cover the cost of complying with regulations in certain countries. For the UK it rose from 0.32% to 0.48% on 22 June 2026.
Offsite Ads. Etsy advertises listings on Google, social platforms and other sites. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, you pay the Offsite Ads fee on that order. Shops under $10,000 in sales over the past 365 days pay 15% and can opt out; shops that pass $10,000 pay 12% and cannot opt out. The fee per order never exceeds $100.
VAT on fees. UK sellers are charged VAT on Etsy's fees. VAT-registered sellers can generally reclaim it; for everyone else it is a cost.
A worked example on a UK order (hypothetical numbers)
A handmade necklace sells for £25.00 with £3.50 postage. Order total: £28.50. Exchange rates move, so treat the listing fee as roughly 15p.
| Fee | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | £0.15 |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% × £28.50 | £1.85 |
| Payment processing | 4% × £28.50 + £0.20 | £1.34 |
| Regulatory operating fee | 0.48% × £28.50 | £0.14 |
| Subtotal | £3.48 | |
| VAT on fees | 20% × £3.48 | £0.70 |
| Total without Offsite Ads | £4.18 (14.7% of the order) | |
| Offsite Ads, if attributed | 15% × £28.50, plus VAT | £5.13 |
| Total with Offsite Ads | £9.31 (32.7% of the order) |
From £28.50, the seller keeps £24.32 on a normal sale, or £19.19 on an Offsite Ads sale — before materials, packaging, actual postage and their time.
Why low-value items are hit hardest (hypothetical numbers)
Now take a pair of £6 earrings with £2 postage — an £8 order.
| Fee | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | £0.15 |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% × £8.00 | £0.52 |
| Payment processing | 4% × £8.00 + £0.20 | £0.52 |
| Regulatory operating fee | 0.48% × £8.00 | £0.04 |
| VAT on fees | 20% × £1.23 | £0.25 |
| Total | £1.48 (18.5% of the order) |
The fixed parts — the listing fee and the 20p processing charge — barely register on a £28.50 order but are a meaningful share of an £8 one. That is the case for bundles ("any three for…"), multi-packs, and setting a sensible minimum price, rather than competing at the bottom of the market.
Where to see what you actually paid
Etsy shows every fee in your payment account and monthly statement in Shop Manager, with a VAT invoice for the fees. Check them against your own expectations every month or two — not because Etsy gets them wrong, but because it is the quickest way to notice the effect of Offsite Ads, renewals and fee changes on your real margin. Export the figures for your bookkeeping; they are the allowable costs your accountant will want.
How to price for Etsy fees
- Price for the worst case on a share of orders. You do not know which orders will be Offsite Ads sales, so assume some will be.
- Use a percentage, not a fixed amount. Fees scale with the order total, so a fixed mark-up on cheap items falls short.
- Watch low-value items. The £0.20 processing charge and listing fee are a bigger share of a £5 sale than a £50 one. Bundles and multi-packs often price better.
- Charge realistic postage. Undercharged postage loses money twice: once on the postage itself, and again because fees are calculated on the total anyway.
- Recalculate when Etsy changes fees. The June 2026 regulatory fee change was small; others have not been.
eBay product research has a margin method that works for any marketplace — every cost line, including returns and advertising, before you decide a price.
Etsy fees compared with eBay and Amazon
Structures differ, so headline percentages mislead. Etsy charges a separate payment processing fee; eBay's final value fee and Amazon's referral fee include payment handling. Etsy's Offsite Ads has no direct equivalent on eBay, where Promoted Listings is optional, and on Amazon, where advertising is pay-per-click. For handmade and vintage goods, Etsy's audience usually justifies its fees; for commodity items, eBay's structure is often cheaper — the eBay listing optimisation guide and starting on eBay UK cover that route.
Reducing Etsy fees legitimately
- List in GBP with a UK bank account to avoid currency conversion.
- Turn off auto-renew on slow seasonal listings you do not want renewing out of season.
- Do not renew listings to chase recency unless the listing converts; each renewal costs a fee.
- Decide on Offsite Ads deliberately while you are under $10,000; sometimes the extra sales are worth the 15%, sometimes not. Etsy Ads: are they worth it? covers how to judge.
- Reclaim VAT on fees if you are VAT registered.
Pricing and fee planning is part of every shop audit in my Etsy management service, because a listing that sells at a loss is not a success, however well it ranks.
